My Surmen GS98 wired mechanical keyboard was working normally yesterday, but it stopped responding when I turned on my PC today. It is plugged in, but there are no lights or signs of power. I initially thought it might need charging, although I now realize this model is fully wired. What should I check to determine whether the issue is the cable, USB port, computer, or keyboard itself?

You can also check whether Windows detects it. Try restarting the PC, inspect the keyboard and USB connector for debris or damage, and look in Device Manager for keyboard or USB errors. If it still has no lights or response on another computer, the keyboard or its cable has probably failed. Keeping an inexpensive backup keyboard around is useful in case this happens during an important deadline.
The cable could be the culprit, especially if it is detachable. Try another compatible USB cable if you can borrow one, and make sure both ends are firmly connected. Since this keyboard is wired, charging it will not help and it should work as soon as it receives USB power.
I only have the original cable at the moment, so I’ll try a different USB port and another computer first.
