Are Two RAM Slots and the VGA Indicator Signs of a Defective Gigabyte B760M Board?

I'm troubleshooting a Gigabyte B760M DDR4 X Gaming motherboard with an i7-13700K. RAM slots 1 and 2 consistently trigger the CPU/DRAM diagnostic light, while slots 3 and 4 work. I tested every memory stick individually, so the issue doesn't appear to be a bad DIMM. I also tried different cooler pressure levels in case the board was flexing, but nothing changed.

After getting the system to pass the CPU and DRAM checks with limited memory, the VGA diagnostic light came on. This happens even when using the processor's integrated graphics, and I also tested different PCIe slots. The CPU and graphics work normally in my older motherboard, and the socket pins on this board look undamaged, so the new motherboard seems to be the likely problem.

I also tried updating the BIOS. The USB drive was formatted as FAT32 and the file was renamed to GIGABYTE.bin, but the Q-Flash process only blinked for about five seconds before stopping instead of running for several minutes. I'm running out of ideas and wondering whether the board is defective and should be returned.

If slot 2 fails even when paired with slot 4, that points more toward a motherboard or socket/contact problem than a memory-stick problem. For normal dual-channel operation, try the recommended paired slots from the manual—usually A2 and B2—rather than using adjacent slots. Since the CPU and graphics work in the older board, and multiple slots on this board fail, an exchange or RMA is probably the sensible next step.

For the BIOS recovery, make sure you’re using the exact BIOS file for the exact board revision, connect only the 24-pin and CPU power cables, use the dedicated BIOS USB port, and rename the file exactly as required. A small, basic USB 2.0 drive can also work better than some newer drives. If the indicator stops after a few seconds every time, the board may not be recognizing the file or may have a firmware issue.

Slot 2 also fails when combined with slot 4, and I’ve already tested every RAM-slot combination. I’ll double-check the board revision and try another basic USB drive, but at this point returning the motherboard seems likely.
