I'm fairly new to PC hardware and bought a prebuilt system a few years ago, with some upgrades added since then. I'd like to improve it for playing upcoming games such as Gears. My current specifications are an Intel Core i7-10700K running at 3.80 GHz, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 3060 with 12 GB of VRAM. What component would be the best first upgrade? Should I provide any additional details, such as my power supply, motherboard, storage, monitor resolution, or target frame rate?

Going from 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM would also be a sensible and relatively inexpensive upgrade, especially for newer games. If you currently have two 8 GB sticks, you can usually add another matching 2x8 GB kit on a compatible DDR4 motherboard. Try to match the exact brand, model, speed, capacity, and timings; otherwise, replacing the existing kit with 2x16 GB may be safer and more reliable.
The graphics card is probably the first thing to upgrade if the current system isn’t delivering the performance you want. Your i7-10700K is still capable, so a stronger GPU should give you the most noticeable improvement. Depending on your budget and desired resolution, something in the range of an RX 9060 XT or RX 9070 XT could make sense. Check that your power supply has enough wattage and the right connectors before buying.
I’d still prioritize the GPU if the goal is higher gaming performance. More RAM helps with stuttering and multitasking, but 16 GB usually isn’t the main limit unless the game or background applications are using nearly all of it.
