How can I fix the Windows automatic repair loop involving SrtTrail.txt?

I'm not very familiar with computers, and Windows keeps sending me to the Automatic Repair screen with an error mentioning D:RecoveryWindowsREWinre.wimSystem32LogfilesSrtSrtTrail.txt. I've already tried resetting the PC, Startup Repair, System Restore, and booting through Startup Settings, including Safe Mode, but nothing has fixed it. What can I try next to get Windows working again?

That file is a diagnostic log created by Automatic Repair; the path itself usually isn’t the actual cause. Since the built-in recovery options haven’t worked, the most reliable solution may be a clean Windows installation from a bootable USB. This will normally erase the Windows drive, so back up any important files first if possible. You can create the installer on another computer, boot from it, and choose a custom installation.

What exactly does a clean installation involve? I’m not very experienced with computers and don’t want to erase something important by accident.
