Why is there a password required for my BIOS?

I'm trying to access my laptop's BIOS, but it's prompting me for a password that I don't know anything about. My laptop model is a notebook n85_n87, specifically h7, hj1, and hk1. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Just a heads up, if you bought it from someone online, there's a chance it could've been owned by a company or a school before. They often set BIOS passwords for security reasons. Have you asked the previous owner about it?

Yeah, I asked, but I got it from an online auction, so I didn't have a chance to meet them.

It sounds like someone set a BIOS password on the laptop before you bought it. If you got it used, that's a pretty common thing to happen. You might want to check if there's a way to reset it, or if the seller has the password.
