I'm wondering whether a GTX 1060 is heavy enough to bend or sag when installed without a support bracket. GPU supports are expensive and difficult to find where I live, and I'm not comfortable opening the PC to install one. If support is still recommended, is there a simple household object that could safely work? Does the 6 GB version make any difference?

A GTX 1060 is relatively small and lightweight, so it should be completely fine without a support. The 6 GB model doesn’t change the situation in any meaningful way.
If you ever want extra peace of mind, almost any stable object cut to the right height could work, such as a small piece of plastic, a pencil, a stick, or a suitably sized stone. Just make sure it is secure and cannot touch any fans or electrical contacts. In practice, though, this card does not really need one.
You don’t need to worry about it. The serious sag usually happens with much larger, heavier triple-fan graphics cards. A 1060 generally won’t bend enough to cause a problem.
I’ve used a GTX 1060 for many years, including a dual-fan model, and it showed no noticeable sag. I wouldn’t spend money importing a support bracket for this card.
