I'm currently using an RX 580 with 8GB of VRAM and have about $150 to spend in the US. Would a standard RTX 2060 be a worthwhile upgrade, or should I look for another used graphics card instead? I mainly care about improving 1080p gaming performance.

For around $150, it may be worth checking used AMD cards such as an RX 6600 or RX 6600 XT. They generally offer a strong improvement over the RX 580 without dropping below 8GB of VRAM. Prices and availability will depend on your local used market.
A used RTX 3060 12GB would be a better target if you can find one close to your budget, although a 3060 Ti may be too expensive at $150. For 1080p, an RTX 2060 Super still performs well, but the regular 6GB RTX 2060 is less appealing because of the VRAM reduction.
An RTX 2060 is roughly 50% faster than an RX 580, so you should see a noticeable improvement. The downside is that most RTX 2060 models have only 6GB of VRAM, compared with your card’s 8GB. If possible, look for an RTX 2060 Super or another card with more memory, though finding one around $150 may be difficult.
My budget is around $150, so I’ll keep an eye out for a used 2060 Super at that price. I’m also wondering whether the 12GB version of the 2060 would be worth considering.
