The technician's explanation is incorrect. A properly functioning 130W Dell adapter does not force 130 watts into the laptop or battery. The laptop draws the power it needs, while the adapter's rating is the maximum it can safely provide. The 130W rating is based on the whole system's requirements, not just battery capacity.
A 65W adapter can be too weak for this workstation, which explains the BIOS warning and the battery discharging while plugged in. You should use a genuine, compatible 130W Dell charger, but the melted port or charging circuitry should also be inspected before continuing to use the machine under heavy load.
The replacement battery is a separate concern. A 63Wh battery may physically work, but it is not equivalent to the original 97Wh battery and should have been disclosed before installation. The charger wattage is determined mainly by the laptop's maximum power consumption and charging requirements, not by the battery's total Wh capacity.
If the old charger or charging port was genuinely defective, that could explain the damage.
