On Nobara with GNOME, clicking the X button closes the window for some applications, but the applications themselves keep running in the background. Telegram, Steam, and Discord are affected. Telegram and Discord have options to change this behavior, and I remember enabling them before, but I can no longer find those settings. I want closing the window with the X button to terminate the application completely, rather than leave its process running. Is there a system setting for this, or do I need to configure each app separately?

For applications that do not provide a setting for this, try Ctrl+Q while the app is focused. In many desktop applications, that means “Quit” and fully exits the program, while clicking X may only close or hide the window. The shortcut is application-dependent, so it will not work everywhere.
This is usually intentional behavior rather than a GNOME setting. Apps such as Telegram, Discord, and Steam may keep running for tray notifications, updates, downloads, or incoming messages. Their own preferences control whether closing the window exits completely, so the option has to be changed separately in each application when available.
That makes sense, but I specifically want these apps to stop when I close their windows, even if that means losing background notifications.
