I'm planning a new tower in Spain with a budget of about €2,200 including VAT. My previous PC failed after several years of poor maintenance, restricted airflow, and a low-end power supply, so this time I'm prioritizing cooling, PSU quality, reliability, and future upgrades.
The main uses will be 1440p gaming at high or ultra settings, web design and development, heavy multitasking with many applications and browser tabs, and cloud-based AI tools. I am not planning to run large AI models locally, and I do not intend to manually overclock. I want the system to last several years.
The proposed parts are:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE
- MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk WiFi
- Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB
- 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 with AMD EXPO
- Existing WD Black SN770 1TB NVMe as the temporary boot and file drive

- Corsair RM850x 850W ATX 3.1 PSU
The case already includes two 160mm front fans and one 140mm rear fan, so I would not add more initially. The estimated total is €2,150–€2,200. I plan to add a new 2TB SSD later.
The SN770 contains my current Windows installation and files, so it must not be formatted during assembly. I will back up important data and retrieve the BitLocker recovery key before moving it.
I would especially like advice on whether the 9800X3D is suitable or whether the 9850X3D is worth considering for only €20–€30 more, whether the RX 9070 XT is a better value than an RTX 5070 Ti that costs roughly €500 more, and whether the B850 Tomahawk is worthwhile for long-term use. DDR5 prices are currently very high, so I am also unsure whether to buy 32GB now, stretch the budget for 64GB, or wait. Is the Phantom Spirit sufficient for quiet and reliable cooling, and are there any compatibility, value, or reliability concerns I have missed? Spanish retailer alternatives would also be useful.

Overall, this is a well-balanced build for 1440p gaming and multitasking. The 9800X3D is already extremely strong for gaming, while the 9850X3D would generally provide only a modest gaming improvement, often under 10 FPS and less when you are GPU-limited at 1440p. It is not a major multitasking upgrade; a higher-core-count X3D chip would matter more for heavily threaded work. If you choose the 9850X3D, the Phantom Spirit may not be sufficient for the best temperatures and noise levels, so a stronger cooler would be advisable.
The RX 9070 XT makes much more sense than paying around €500 extra for an RTX 5070 Ti if you do not need CUDA, DLSS, or local AI features. The MSI Tomahawk is also a sensible quality motherboard, although a more expensive board is unlikely to improve gaming performance. Given current memory prices, 32GB is reasonable unless the multitasking or development workload is already using more; saving money elsewhere just to force 64GB could hurt overall performance more than it helps.
The parts are compatible and the Lancool 216’s included fans should provide a good starting airflow setup. The Phantom Spirit is a capable cooler for the 9800X3D, especially at stock settings, so there is no obvious need to replace it. If temperatures or noise are disappointing after assembly, you can always move to a larger cooler later.
I would keep the 9800X3D unless the 9850X3D’s small gaming uplift is particularly important to you. The RX 9070 XT is the better value choice for your stated needs, and the 850W Corsair PSU gives you a solid reliability margin. Reusing the SN770 temporarily is also reasonable: back it up first, keep the BitLocker recovery key available, and be prepared for Windows to require driver or activation adjustments after the motherboard change.

That makes sense. I’ll probably start with 32GB and the 9800X3D, then add more memory or storage later if my actual workload shows that I need it.
