I'm upgrading from an i5-9400F and am choosing between two similarly priced AM5 bundles. One includes a Ryzen 5 7600X3D with 32GB of RAM, while the other has a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with 16GB. I'll mainly game at 1440p with an RTX 3060 12GB for now, although I'm planning to upgrade to a graphics card around the Radeon 9070 XT level later. Since the two CPUs seem fairly close in 1440p gaming performance, I'm unsure whether the extra CPU cores are worth starting with only 16GB of memory. Which bundle would make more sense for gaming and future upgrades?

The 7600X3D bundle is the better-balanced option. The six-core X3D chip is already plenty for 1440p gaming, and the extra memory is more useful than the 7800X3D’s additional cores in this situation. If you eventually need more CPU performance, replacing the processor is straightforward; expanding the 2x8GB kit may be less ideal because four DDR5 sticks can sometimes make EXPO memory settings unstable.
I’d still consider the 7800X3D if you do a lot of video editing, rendering, or heavy multitasking, since its extra cores can help there. For gaming alone, though, I would not sacrifice 16GB of RAM for the relatively small performance difference at 1440p. Memory usage varies by game and background workload, so 16GB may be fine today but gives you much less headroom.

At 1440p, the gaming difference between these CPUs is usually fairly small, while 32GB gives you more breathing room for modern games, background applications, and browser tabs.
