Are These Ryzen 7 9850X3D Temperatures Normal?

I'm trying to figure out whether my Ryzen 7 9850X3D is running hotter than it should. At idle, it sits around 60–63°C, and while gaming it reaches the high 70s. I've already applied a -25 undervolt, and the room is air-conditioned. My system uses a ROG Strix RTX 5070 OC, ROG Strix B850-F Gaming WiFi motherboard, 32GB of Klevv Cras V CL30 DDR5-6000, a Thermalright Wonder Vision 360 cooler, a Lian Li O11 Vision Compact case, and a Corsair RM850x ATX 3.1 power supply. Are these temperatures normal, or should I adjust my fan curve or other settings?

If you want to reduce temperatures a little, you could run the radiator and case fans at a higher speed, but it isn’t necessary with these readings. The main thing to watch for is sustained temperatures approaching the mid-90s under a proper CPU stress test.

Gaming is useful for checking real-world behavior, but a demanding CPU benchmark such as Cinebench or OCCT will produce a heavier load than most games. PUBG can show typical gaming temperatures, though your high-70s result already looks healthy.

Those temperatures are completely normal. Idle readings aren’t especially important because background tasks, fan curves, and Ryzen’s boosting behavior can make them fluctuate. High 70s during gaming is comfortably safe.

You generally don’t need to change anything. This processor is designed to operate safely up to around 95°C, so gaming in the 70s leaves plenty of headroom. Lowering the temperature further won’t provide a meaningful performance or lifespan benefit in normal use.
