Is Cold Outreach a Good Way to Find Users for a SaaS Product?

I recently launched a SaaS tool that analyzes LinkedIn data. It tracks post performance, suggests good times to publish, highlights trending posts for hashtag research based on location and industry, and generates downloadable reports. It uses the platform's official APIs.

The site is getting roughly 350 visitors a day, but most of the people I need to reach aren't finding it yet. A friend suggested cold email or other direct outreach, although I rarely open those messages myself.

Is cold outreach actually necessary for an early-stage product like this, or are there better ways to reach the right audience? I'm also wondering whether the time spent building the product was wasted if finding the target market is this difficult.

Cold messages can feel intrusive, so make them easy to ignore and clearly relevant. Don’t pretend the message is personal if it’s automated, don’t oversell the product, and avoid contacting people who have no obvious use for it. A focused note offering a quick insight or showing how the tool could help with a specific publishing problem is much less annoying than a broad sales pitch. Also, keep improving your organic acquisition—350 daily visitors means there is already some interest, even if the audience isn’t perfectly targeted yet.

Exactly. A visitor who isn’t the right customer yet can still reveal which search terms, pages, or features are attracting the wrong audience. That data should help refine the positioning before scaling outreach.

Cold outreach isn’t the only option, but it’s usually better than waiting for the right users to discover you on their own. The key is to avoid sending generic campaigns. Keep the message short, explain why you picked that person, and connect it to something specific they recently posted or a problem common in their role. You’ll still get ignored sometimes, but relevant messages have a much better chance of being read.

That makes sense. Personalizing each message sounds slower, but probably more useful than sending hundreds of identical emails.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with testing outreach. Sales and distribution are often the difficult parts for technical founders, so try several channels instead of treating cold email as the entire strategy. You could publish useful analysis from your own tool, create examples for specific industries, partner with people who teach professional networking, or participate in conversations where your target users already ask about content performance. Track which approach brings qualified signups and stop the ones that only generate traffic.
