I'm planning to build a gaming PC in the United States that matches or exceeds the performance of a PS5 Pro. I'd like the build process to be as trouble-free as possible, so I'm open to suggestions for swapping components, avoiding compatibility issues, and addressing any known weaknesses in my selected parts. My current build is listed in the parts list I provided. I'm considering Linux Mint Cinnamon as the operating system and plan to choose a monitor in person. Ideally, I'd like to keep the total cost below $3,000.

Linux Mint is easy to use, but its older kernel may be less ideal for a brand-new gaming system, especially with newer graphics hardware. Fedora or Debian with a newer kernel may provide better hardware support while still feeling familiar. Before committing, check whether the games you care about work properly through Proton and whether they use anti-cheat systems that restrict Linux.
You can reduce the cost, double the storage, and potentially move to a faster graphics card by trimming unnecessary premium parts. The case and lighting are mostly personal preference, so that’s an easy place to save money. Also, if having the fewest possible gaming hiccups is your top priority, Windows will generally offer broader game, driver, and anti-cheat compatibility than Linux. Linux can work well, but it may require more troubleshooting depending on your library.
You can likely spend less while getting better performance. A Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with a Radeon RX 9070 XT would make a very strong gaming combination. A less expensive dual-tower air cooler is enough for the CPU, and an 850W Gold-rated power supply should be suitable. Just double-check current pricing, since some of the memory and SSD prices in the suggested list look unusually high. You could also consider a 2TB NVMe drive instead of paying a premium for a 1TB model.
Is the higher price on the Vengeance memory mostly because of the brand, or are there meaningful performance differences?

Are Fedora and Debian both Linux distributions? I’m mainly looking for something reliable and straightforward to set up.
