My grandmother's phone placed an outgoing call to one of my grandfather's friends around 3 a.m. while both of them were asleep. The number wasn't saved in her contacts, and she doesn't know it from memory. She also hadn't called this person recently, so we're trying to figure out how the call happened. Could it have been caused by the call history, a connected device, a voice assistant, an app, or accidentally interacting with the phone while asleep?

It’s possible she interacted with the phone while asleep or accidentally pressed it after rolling onto it. Depending on the lock-screen settings, an old number in the call history might be reachable without much effort.
If this kind of unexplained behavior happens repeatedly, check the phone for suspicious apps, unusual accessibility settings, or remote-control access. Also make sure the household’s carbon-monoxide detectors are working, since unusual nighttime events should not be dismissed if anyone is experiencing other symptoms.
Start by checking the full call history, Bluetooth-connected devices, apps that have phone permissions, and whether a voice assistant or emergency shortcut could have been triggered. Even if the number wasn’t saved as a contact, it may still be available in the recent-call list.

I checked and found that this friend had actually been called from the phone several months ago. It would be surprising if she somehow scrolled that far and tapped the number, but accidentally selecting it is still more likely than the number appearing from nowhere.
