I'm trying to decide whether the six-core Ryzen 5 9600X will be enough for 1440p gaming when paired with a 16GB RX 9060 XT. I'm mainly thinking about games such as Black Myth: Wukong and Clair Obscur. The 9600X is currently on sale for $375 NZD, down from $400, while the Ryzen 5 7600X is priced at $379. Will the 9600X meaningfully limit the graphics card, or would the cheaper or older option make more sense?

The Ryzen 5 7600X and 9600X are fairly close in gaming performance, with the newer chip generally offering only a modest improvement. Since they're almost the same price in this case, I'd choose the 9600X; otherwise, just buy whichever one is noticeably cheaper. Even a Ryzen 5 5600 would run the 9060 XT reasonably well, so the 9600X gives you plenty of headroom.
Yes, the 9600X is more than capable for 1440p gaming with that graphics card. At this resolution, the GPU is usually the limiting component, especially in demanding games. Six cores shouldn't be a meaningful problem here.
