I accidentally spilled watermelon juice on my PC and didn't notice until the computer froze. I tried shutting it down with the case power button, but it wouldn't respond, so I eventually switched off the power at the PSU. The next morning it booted, but the power button still wouldn't shut it down.
I've now removed the components and can see liquid residue and stains on parts of the motherboard, although it doesn't appear to be a large amount. What's the safest way to clean everything? Would distilled water and a brush be appropriate, or should I use isopropyl alcohol? How long should the parts dry before I try powering the system on again?

Stop trying to power it on for now. Disconnect the PC from the wall, remove the CMOS battery, and hold the case power button for about 10 seconds to discharge any remaining power. Juice leaves sugars and other conductive residue behind, so powering it while it’s contaminated can cause more damage.
After cleaning, leave the system fully disassembled with a fan blowing over it for at least a couple of days. Move or reposition the parts occasionally so air reaches different areas. Don’t test it just because the outside feels dry—residue can remain underneath chips, connectors, and other components.
For the motherboard and removable components, use 70% or higher isopropyl alcohol with a soft plastic-bristled brush or toothbrush. Carefully scrub away the residue, then gently blot it and use a fan to move air across the parts. Distilled water can work for rinsing residue, but only if you can dry everything thoroughly afterward; alcohol is generally more convenient because it evaporates faster. Keep liquid away from fans where possible, and make sure every part is completely dry before reconnecting it.
The motherboard has visible stains near one corner and a little on the back, so I’ll clean both sides rather than just wiping the obvious spots.
Do not open or attempt to clean the power supply. If there’s any chance juice reached inside it, replace the PSU instead. A contaminated PSU can be dangerous and may damage other components. Also, expect that corrosion may still develop later even after cleaning, so the sooner you remove the residue, the better.
