I currently use a gaming laptop and want to upgrade to my first full desktop gaming setup. I'm especially interested in getting a visually appealing build, but I also want to make sure the parts are well balanced and suitable for 1440p gaming. The planned specifications are an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, GeForce RTX 4070 Super with 12GB of VRAM, a B650 motherboard, 16GB of DDR5-6000 memory, and a 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD. The system should cost under $1,500 because of a deal. I may upgrade to a Ryzen 7 processor later, and I'm also wondering about routine maintenance, such as dust cleaning and replacing thermal paste. It will come with Windows 11 Pro, although I may switch editions.

Sixteen gigabytes of RAM will work, but 32GB would be a worthwhile upgrade for a new gaming PC, especially if you multitask or play newer titles. The 1TB SSD is a decent starting point, although you may want additional storage later.
That’s a strong starting point for 1440p gaming. The Ryzen 5 9600X and RTX 4070 Super should handle modern games well at medium-to-high settings, and DLSS can help maintain higher frame rates when needed.
For maintenance, regularly clean dust from the filters, fans, and heatsinks using compressed air while the PC is powered off. Thermal paste usually doesn’t need to be replaced on a fixed schedule; it can last several years and is generally only worth changing if temperatures rise or you remove and reinstall the cooler. Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 later should be possible as long as the motherboard BIOS supports the processor. Windows 11 Pro is also fine, and changing editions is optional rather than a performance requirement.
The parts look good, but the total price matters. A 4070 Super is still capable, though it may not be the best value if it costs more than a newer RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti. At under $1,500, though, the overall system sounds much more reasonable.
