I'm running an RTX 5080 with a Ryzen 7 8700G and a Corsair RM850 power supply. Most games run normally, but certain titles at 4K cause the fans to suddenly ramp up, followed by a loss of signal to the monitor. I have to restart the PC to recover. I'm using DisplayPort, though I'm not sure whether that matters. I also cleaned out the system, but it made little difference. Could this be a power-delivery issue, overheating, or something else?

A quality Corsair RM850 should be worth investigating before replacing it, but the specific revision and condition are important. Try updating the GPU driver and motherboard BIOS, monitoring temperatures, and testing the affected games with a reduced power limit or slightly lower settings. Also check that the GPU is seated properly and that its power cable isn’t bent sharply near the connector. If the system remains stable only when the card is power-limited, the PSU, cable, or graphics card itself may need closer testing.
An 850W unit is generally in the range recommended for an RTX 5080, so wattage alone doesn’t prove it’s the problem. The exact RM850 model and its age still matter, especially whether it’s an ATX 3.x version. A sudden fan ramp followed by a lost display sounds more like the GPU crashing under a heavy load than a DisplayPort issue. Check GPU core and hotspot temperatures with HWiNFO, reseat the graphics card power connector, and make sure it is fully inserted. Use the PSU’s native 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR cable if available rather than an adapter. As a test, lower the GPU power limit to around 70–80%; if the crashes stop, power delivery becomes much more suspicious.
