My PC case has feet that lift it slightly above the floor, but its power supply intake is on the bottom. The carpet is thin and not especially furry, and only about half of the case is sitting on it. Is this safe, or should I put the PC on a stand or some other raised surface?

The main concern is dust rather than an immediate safety problem. If the PSU or other fans draw air from underneath, putting the case on a scrap of wood, a small platform, or a short cart would improve airflow and make cleaning less frequent.
A raised base is a good idea, especially with a bottom-mounted PSU intake. Even a board, sturdy box, or a few layers of thick cardboard under the case will help keep the intake away from carpet fibers. Whatever you use, make sure it’s stable and doesn’t cover the ventilation openings.
It should be safe as long as the case feet leave enough clearance and the carpet isn’t blocking the intake. Keep an eye on the PSU and case dust filters, though, since a PC sitting on the floor will collect dust and lint faster.
