I currently use Chrome Remote Desktop to connect to several Windows machines. It is free and works reasonably well, but the mobile experience is frustrating. I'm considering trying Splashtop and would like to know how it performs in real-world use. Has anyone used it over airplane Wi‑Fi, and is it noticeably more reliable or less laggy than Chrome Remote Desktop? Also, do headless Windows systems remain logged in after connecting and disconnecting? I need certain scripts and desktop-dependent processes to keep running throughout the day, even when no monitor is attached. Finally, are you generally happy with Splashtop, and have you encountered any major reliability, usability, graphics, or security concerns?

Overall, the experience has been positive, and the product has improved considerably over time. The main limitation for me is that remote registry access still isn’t available, although command-line tools can cover many of those tasks. For ordinary remote administration, the mobile apps and desktop access have been reliable enough.
RustDesk may also be worth evaluating if you mainly need straightforward remote access. The open-source version supports an unlimited number of devices and includes a mobile app, so it could be a useful alternative to compare during your trial.
