I spilled apple juice on my laptop and pressed the power button right away. I'm worried that I may have put it into sleep mode instead of shutting it down fully. Is there a safe way to completely power it off without turning it back on or waiting for the battery to drain? I'm not comfortable opening it up or disconnecting the battery myself, so I may take it to a technician.

If the laptop is in sleep mode, its power indicator will usually blink slowly and steadily. Sleep still uses a small amount of power, so the laptop isn’t completely off. Since your main power light is off, it may already be shut down, but the other indicator could represent charging, battery status, or another low-power state.
The most certain method is to disconnect the battery, since some newer laptops can remain partially powered even in modern standby or hybrid sleep. However, you shouldn’t force the battery connector or open anything you’re not comfortable handling. Leave the laptop off, avoid plugging it in, and have a technician inspect and clean it as soon as possible because juice residue can cause corrosion or short circuits.
I opened the bottom cover, but I’m not confident I can disconnect the battery safely without damaging something. I’ll leave it alone and take it to a technician in the morning.

The main power light is completely off, but there’s still a small light on the side with what looks like a light-bulb symbol. I’m not sure what that indicator means.
