My PC was working normally, but after being shut down and disconnected from the power strip for a couple of hours, it began powering on for only a split second before shutting off. The RAM lighting remains on, and the CPU debug LED flashes briefly. The system has an Intel Core i9-14900KF, Gigabyte Z790 AORUS PRO X WIFI7 motherboard, Gigabyte RTX 5080 XTREME WATERFORCE graphics card, 32 GB of RAM, and a be quiet! Dark Power 13 PSU running Windows 11 Pro. I have checked and reseated the power cables, verified the CPU power connectors, tested the RAM sticks individually, tried starting without GPU power, cleared CMOS, disconnected and reconnected the cables, and allowed RAM training to run for about 15 minutes. Nothing changed. I have not modified the hardware recently, and the CPU is about a year old. What additional tests can help determine whether the PSU, motherboard, or CPU is at fault without having a spare PSU available?

If the board can stay powered long enough to enter firmware, update to the newest BIOS and select Intel Default power settings. Also disable any motherboard enhancement or turbo mode settings. The 14900KF has known reports of instability and degradation, so if the system still shuts down at the same point after a BIOS update, the CPU may need warranty service.
Since you already tried different outlets and power strips, the next useful isolation step is to remove everything nonessential: motherboard, CPU and cooler, one RAM stick, PSU, and the case power switch connection. Start it by briefly shorting the power-switch pins. Leave out the GPU, storage drives, USB devices, and extra fans. If it still immediately cuts off with that minimal setup, the likely suspects are the PSU, motherboard, or CPU. Do not mix modular cables from another PSU, and avoid repeatedly powering it on if there is any smell, heat, or visible damage.
A CPU LED flashing does not automatically prove the processor is bad; it can simply be the first failed POST stage. Reseat the CPU and inspect the socket for bent contacts, check that the cooler is not applying unusual pressure, and verify both motherboard power connectors are fully latched. Because the system worked recently and the CPU is only about a year old, testing with a known-good PSU or having a repair shop test the board and processor would be the most reliable way to separate the parts.
There were no hardware changes before the failure, but I’ll inspect the socket and try the minimal configuration before arranging replacement testing.
