Which Linux distribution is best for a beginner using a Lenovo Legion Y530 with NVIDIA graphics?

I'm completely new to Linux and would like a beginner-friendly distribution for my Lenovo Legion Y530. It has an Intel Core i5-8300H, 32 GB of RAM, a 500 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD 630 graphics, and a GeForce GTX 1050 with 4 GB of VRAM. I'm mainly looking for something stable, easy to install, and good at handling NVIDIA drivers and switching between the integrated and dedicated GPUs without generating unnecessary heat. Which distributions and desktop environments would work well for this hardware?

The GTX 1050 is an older NVIDIA card, so check which driver branch currently supports it before choosing a distribution. Very new drivers or kernels can occasionally create compatibility problems with older hardware. The key thing is to use the supported proprietary driver and configure hybrid graphics so the Intel GPU handles normal desktop work while the NVIDIA GPU is used for games or other demanding applications. Testing from a live USB is the safest first step.

Fedora is polished and well supported, but NVIDIA setup usually takes a few extra steps because the driver isn’t included by default. It’s a good choice if you don’t mind following a guide, though Mint or Ubuntu-based distributions will likely be less frustrating for a first installation. A Fedora-based beginner-focused variant can provide a more convenient setup.

Ubuntu or an Ubuntu-based system such as Zorin OS would also be reasonable. They have lots of documentation and broad hardware support, and installing the recommended proprietary NVIDIA driver is well documented. Zorin is particularly approachable if you want a Windows-like layout, while Ubuntu tends to offer newer packages and longer-term support.
