Why did my phone show it was charging with just a cord plugged in?

I was in a car with my mom, and I plugged my phone into a cord without really thinking. To my surprise, it charged! However, my mom was confused because when I looked over, the cord wasn't plugged into the car charger at all. I even checked and there was no connection to the car's power source. How could this possibly happen?

Did you check if that cord was plugged into something prior? I mean, it could've been linked to a charger before you unplugged it by accident. It’s a little weird, but you might’ve just overlooked it.

It sounds like something was off—your phone shouldn't charge without being connected to power. Maybe the cord was still connected to a wall charger before, or perhaps there’s a chance it has some feature like a wireless charging pad you didn’t notice? Just a thought!

Honestly, that seems impossible. Either your phone or your perception of what was going on was mistaken. I can't think of a plausible way your phone would charge without any connection.
