Which Parts of My $3,500 Gaming PC Build Are Overpriced?

I'm moving from a prebuilt system to my first custom PC and would appreciate some advice on where I may be overspending. The budget is around $3,500, although I'd prefer to stay closer to $3,000 if possible. This build is mainly for competitive gaming in the USA. I care much more about performance than appearance, and I'm intentionally comfortable with some overkill so the system should remain powerful for years. Are there any parts where I'm paying for branding or features that won't make a meaningful difference in gaming?

The power supply is a sensible place to prioritize quality, but you may be able to find a reputable 1000-watt unit with similar performance for less. It’s also worth checking CPU, motherboard, and memory bundles from major retailers, since those can reduce the total cost. For a high-end gaming system, putting the savings toward the graphics card or keeping the money in your budget is more useful than paying extra for a premium SSD.

I’d look closely at the SSD and motherboard first. High-end specifications and marketing features don’t necessarily translate into better gaming performance, so make sure you actually need their extra connectivity or storage speed. The case also appears to need additional fans, and using only radiator fans for intake may not give you the airflow balance you want. A case that already includes several fans could save money and simplify the build.

The biggest opportunities to save are the Samsung and Corsair parts, along with the PCIe 5.0 SSD. A fast PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive will feel essentially the same in games, since loading times usually don’t benefit much from the extra sequential speed. You can also use a less expensive cooler, motherboard, and case without sacrificing gaming performance. A similar build with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080 should be possible around $3,000.
