I'm deciding between building my own gaming PC and buying the PowerSpec G535 for $1,700. My DIY system would use a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RX 9070 XT, 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 2TB NVMe SSD, a better CPU cooler, and a 1,050W Gold-rated power supply. Using a processor, motherboard, and memory bundle, the DIY build would cost about $2,150 before tax—roughly $450 more than the prebuilt. The prebuilt has a less powerful CPU and less storage, but it includes a one-year warranty and avoids the time and risk of assembling everything myself. Is the extra cost for the DIY system justified, or is the G535 the better value?

The main question is whether the extra $450 is worth the faster processor and larger SSD to you. The DIY system also appears to use stronger overall components, but the prebuilt still offers solid performance for considerably less money and includes warranty coverage.
You can trim the DIY cost slightly by sticking with the bundle and choosing a less expensive 9070 XT model or SSD. That brings the total closer to $2,125, but it still doesn’t eliminate the large price gap with the prebuilt. I’d choose the DIY system only if you genuinely want the building experience or specifically value the faster CPU and extra storage.
The prebuilt is a good option because the CPU and SSD are easy to upgrade later. Unless you specifically need the 9800X3D’s extra performance or want the larger drive immediately, saving $450 and having a one-year warranty is pretty compelling.
Both options make sense. The DIY build gives you a faster CPU, more storage, a better cooler, and generally nicer supporting parts. The $1,700 system should still deliver performance that is close enough for most gaming, so it likely has the better price-to-performance ratio. You’re mainly paying extra for higher-end parts and a few quality-of-life improvements.

I do like the idea of assembling it myself, but spending this much makes me nervous. I’m worried I could damage something during the build.
