I'm looking to replace the Radeon RX 5700 XT in my gaming PC because it regularly reaches over 100°C and sometimes causes crashes. My system has a Ryzen 9 5900X and a 1080p 144Hz monitor. I'm considering an RTX 5060 Ti with 8GB for about $379 or the 16GB version for around $579, and I'm wondering whether the extra VRAM is worth the price difference. I mainly play GTA V, Minecraft, CS2, Rust, Rainbow Six Siege, and eventually GTA 6. I'm open to other GPU suggestions too, and I'm also wondering whether the crashes could be caused by something besides the graphics card.

Before replacing the card, check whether the temperature is the GPU core temperature or the hotspot temperature, and make sure the problem isn’t the power supply. If the card has always run this hot, cleaning it, replacing the thermal paste, and checking the fans could be much cheaper than buying a new GPU.
Take a look at the RX 9060 XT 16GB as well. It can offer strong gaming performance for the money and may be a better value than the 16GB 5060 Ti if you don’t specifically need Nvidia features such as CUDA, DLSS, or certain ray-tracing performance. For a gaming-focused build, the 16GB 9060 XT is worth serious consideration.
For straightforward 1080p gaming, 8GB can still work, but 16GB gives you more breathing room for newer games, higher textures, mods, and future upgrades. It isn’t truly future-proof, but the extra VRAM can extend the useful life of the card. At the prices listed, though, the 16GB model is a large premium, so compare other cards before committing.
Your Ryzen 9 5900X is still capable, especially at 1080p, but very fast modern GPUs can become CPU-limited in high-refresh competitive games. You’ll still be able to play everything you listed, but don’t overspend on a high-end GPU expecting all of its performance to show up at 1080p. A midrange 16GB card is probably the best balance.
