My PC shows a black screen in the BIOS and during the pre-Windows startup sequence whenever I use my external RX 580 graphics card. If I remove the card and connect the monitor directly to the motherboard, the computer works normally and I can enter the BIOS. The monitor has VGA and DVI inputs, while the graphics card has HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort outputs. I'm currently using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, and I also tried VGA-to-VGA and VGA-to-HDMI adapters, but the screen stays black when connected to the RX 580. What should I check or try next?

Make sure the display cable is connected to one of the RX 580’s ports, not the motherboard video output, when the card is installed. Also verify that the monitor is set to the correct input. Since the monitor and graphics card both support DVI, a direct DVI-to-DVI cable is worth trying because it avoids possible adapter or signal-conversion issues.
I hadn’t tried a direct DVI-to-DVI connection yet. I’ll test that first since both devices have matching ports.
