I'm planning to buy a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and have heard that the stock AMD cooler may not be sufficient. I'd prefer to stick with air cooling, but I'm concerned that a large dual-tower cooler could put too much weight or stress on my motherboard. What cooler would you recommend, and is the size or weight of these larger models something I should worry about?

I’m using a Phantom Spirit on mine as well, and it handles the processor without a problem.
The Thermalright Phantom Spirit is an excellent choice for the 5800X3D. It provides plenty of cooling performance for the price and is a popular dual-tower air cooler.
Don’t be too concerned about the weight of a large cooler. A properly mounted dual-tower model is supported by the motherboard’s backplate and mounting hardware, so it shouldn’t damage the board. A good single-tower cooler can work too, but its fan may need to spin faster under load.
So a large cooler like the Phantom Spirit shouldn’t cause problems just from hanging off the motherboard?
