I'm planning a PC upgrade for gaming at 1440p with ultra settings. DDR5 is currently too expensive, so I'm considering an Intel Core i5-14600KF, a compatible DDR4 motherboard, and 16GB of DDR4 memory. I already have a 750W 80+ Gold power supply. Would this be a well-balanced combination, and is using one 16GB stick a good idea?

Don’t mix separate memory modules just because they have the same advertised specifications. Manufacturers can change the memory chips without changing the model name, which may cause XMP to fail. Buy one matched 2x16GB kit instead.
The graphics card is the main part to reconsider. Depending on local pricing, an RX 9070 or 9070 XT may offer more performance than an RTX 5070 for similar or even lower cost. Either way, the 14600KF is a reasonable match for 1440p, especially at ultra settings where the GPU will usually be the limiting component.
Your 750W Gold PSU should generally be enough for this setup as long as it’s a reputable model and in good condition. Check the motherboard’s power delivery and cooling too, since the 14600KF can draw substantial power. A board with decent VRMs and adequate CPU cooling is important.
The 14600KF and RTX 5070 should work well for 1440p gaming, but don’t buy just one 16GB stick. Get a matched 2x16GB kit so the system runs in dual channel. DDR4-3200 CL16 or DDR4-3600 CL18 is a sensible target. Also make sure the motherboard supports the CPU properly and has a BIOS version that handles 14th-generation processors.

A 14600KF with DDR4 can still perform well, but DDR5 generally gives it better gaming performance. If you’re trying to control the budget, a good DDR4 kit is still much better than running a single stick.
