I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with a crack running in from the left side of the display. It seemed harmless at first, but the screen now randomly turns off and sometimes won't come back for about a minute. When I try to wake it, the display briefly flashes very dark, and the fingerprint sensor sometimes glows red. Everything else appears normal, and the phone is fully updated. Could the crack be causing this, or is there another issue I should check?

A display repair is the sensible first step because it removes the obvious source of the problem. If the glitches continue afterward, the repair shop can check for additional damage from the impact, such as a loose connector or another affected component. Avoid pressing on the cracked area, and power the phone down if it starts getting hot or behaving erratically.
The crack is the most likely cause. Even if the phone still works normally most of the time, a damaged display or connector underneath can cause intermittent blackouts, dark flashes, and strange fingerprint-sensor behavior. I’d get the screen inspected or replaced rather than assuming it’s a software problem. Back up your data soon in case the issue gets worse.
That makes sense. I was assuming the crack was only cosmetic, but I’ll arrange a repair and back everything up first.
