Can I replace my heavy MSI laptop charger with a 100W GaN USB-C charger?

I'm 152 cm tall and carry a 15.6-inch MSI Prestige 15 A11SC to school every day, with a commute of over an hour. The laptop is already heavy, and its original power brick is unusually large and tiring to carry. I'm considering buying a 100W GaN charger and a properly rated 100W USB-C-to-USB-C cable as a lighter substitute. Does this laptop support USB-C Power Delivery at that wattage, and would it be suitable for regular use? I'd like to avoid spending money on a setup that won't work properly.

The original adapter appears to provide around 90W, so a 100W USB-C charger sounds sufficient on paper. However, USB-C charging depends on Power Delivery support and how MSI implemented it. Even when it charges normally, the laptop may reduce performance or slowly lose battery during demanding tasks if USB-C cannot provide as much power as the original adapter. I’d keep the original brick at home and use the GaN charger as a portable option only after confirming the exact specifications.

It should work if your specific laptop supports USB-C Power Delivery and accepts 100W through that port. Check the laptop’s manual or the markings near the USB-C port first, since some MSI models only accept full-power charging through the barrel connector. Make sure the cable is also rated for 100W; cheaper cables may limit charging or fail to charge at all.
