My desktop computer has worked reliably for about a year and a half, except for one previous incident where replacing the Wi‑Fi antenna fixed a connection problem. Now Windows 11 cannot find any wireless networks at all. In Device Manager, the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Wi‑Fi 7 High Band Simultaneous Network Adapter is grayed out, and its properties say the device is not connected and should be reconnected to the computer. I have restarted the system several times, checked for driver updates, and restored Windows to an earlier restore point, but nothing changed. I also tried another Wi‑Fi antenna and moved the tower to inspect it, without success. I'm not comfortable opening the case because I don't know what component or cable I should be checking. The system has a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and Windows 11 Pro. Before driving two hours to a repair center with no guaranteed turnaround time, is there anything else I can safely try?

The quickest workaround is to connect the tower directly to your router with an Ethernet cable. If you need wireless access, a USB Wi‑Fi adapter is another inexpensive option. Install its driver using another computer or a temporary wired connection, then use it until the built-in adapter is repaired. Since Windows says the adapter is not connected, this may be a hardware or internal connection problem rather than an antenna issue.
That specific message usually means Windows no longer detects the physical Wi‑Fi module. An antenna only connects to the outside of the adapter, so replacing it won’t help if the internal card has lost power, become loose, or failed. You could shut the computer down completely, unplug it, and have someone comfortable with PC hardware check that the Wi‑Fi card and its small antenna leads are firmly seated. If you don’t know what to look for, avoiding further disassembly and having the store inspect it is the safest choice.
Before assuming the card is dead, check Device Manager under Network adapters and enable View > Show hidden devices. If the adapter appears there, right-click it and choose Enable device. You can also shut the PC down, disconnect power for a minute, then start it again. If it still appears grayed out with a message saying it isn’t connected, software troubleshooting probably won’t fix it—the computer is failing to detect the hardware.

I’m not familiar with the parts inside the tower, so I’d rather not remove anything without knowing exactly what I’m looking at. I may try Ethernet or a USB adapter first while deciding whether to take it in.
