Which RTX 5080 model should I buy, and should I purchase it before December?

I'm planning to build a new PC in December and intend to use an RTX 5080. I'm currently comparing the MSI Gaming Trio OC, an Aorus model, and the Asus Astral, but I'm not sure whether one is clearly better than the others. Which model would you recommend?

I'm also wondering how likely prices are to rise by December. Would it make sense to buy the graphics card early to avoid a potential increase, or is it better to wait for deals and buy the whole system later? I'm planning to build the PC myself rather than buy a prebuilt.

Unless you specifically care about the appearance, cooler design, or extra features, the cards should perform very similarly. Check current reviews for noise and temperatures, then buy whichever reputable model is cheapest when you’re ready. Prices between board partners can change depending on retailer promotions, so choosing a model months in advance may not save you anything.

Don’t automatically pay extra for a premium badge. Look at independent reviews for cooler quality, fan noise, warranty support, and the card’s physical size. If two models have comparable reviews, take the less expensive one. PNY and other less flashy brands can be perfectly good choices too.

I’d avoid paying a large premium for a specific model unless you need a particular feature. The Founders Edition or a well-reviewed aftermarket card is usually enough, and the best choice will probably be whichever one is available at a reasonable price when you buy.

Nobody can reliably predict what prices will look like in December. Prices have already moved around recently, and seasonal sales might help, but there’s no guarantee. Since you’re not building until then, I’d generally wait unless you find an unusually good deal from a retailer with a solid return policy.

Are you considering a prebuilt system, or are you planning to choose and assemble every part yourself?

I’m planning to select the parts and build the PC myself.
