Is the RX 6700 XT Still Worth Buying for 1080p Gaming in 2026?

I'm looking to upgrade from a GTX 1060 to a Radeon RX 6700 XT. I mainly play at 1080p and want to know whether it's still a worthwhile upgrade in 2026, how long it might remain usable for AAA games, and whether there are better options around the same budget. I can currently get one used for about $290.

It can even handle lighter games at 4K, but 1440p is the more realistic target for demanding titles. For your 1080p setup, it should deliver high settings and good frame rates for several years, though the exact lifespan will depend on the games you play and how much you’re willing to reduce settings.

The card should remain usable for AAA games for quite a while, but future demanding titles may require medium settings, reduced ray tracing, or upscaling. It won’t suddenly stop running games; you’ll just gradually need to lower visual settings. Its 12GB of VRAM is helpful for longevity.

For $290 used, I’d compare it against deals on an RX 6800, RX 7700 XT, RTX 3080, or RTX 3080 Ti. A stronger card can be worthwhile if you find one in good condition, but the 6700 XT is still a sensible choice for 1080p and occasional 1440p gaming. Just check temperatures, fan noise, and whether the seller can demonstrate that it works properly.

The RX 6700 XT still performs well at 1440p. A similar RX 6750 XT is roughly 10% faster, and even that card can manage many AAA games at high settings around 60 FPS at 3440×1440 with some FSR. At 1080p, the 6700 XT should be excellent, assuming your CPU and memory aren’t holding it back.

As an upgrade from a GTX 1060, the RX 6700 XT is a major step up and should handle 1080p gaming very well. It’s also capable at 1440p, especially if you’re willing to adjust settings or use FSR. Whether it’s worth $290 depends heavily on its condition and what other used cards are available locally.

That makes sense. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether there’s a faster card I should look for around the same $290 budget.
