I'm currently using an RTX 3080, a Ryzen 5 5600, and 32GB of 3200MHz memory. I don't want to move to the AM5 platform, and I mainly play competitive games such as Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, Valorant, and Counter-Strike rather than demanding AAA titles. I'm considering upgrading to a 300Hz-or-faster OLED monitor, but I'm not sure whether my system can consistently reach those frame rates. Since I play at low settings and these games can be CPU-limited, would upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5500X3D provide a noticeable improvement in average FPS and 1% lows?

There can be a noticeable gain in CPU-heavy games. One example showed a Ryzen 5 5600X averaging about 271 FPS while the 5500X3D reached roughly 329 FPS, although the result depends on the game and settings. In practice, expect something closer to a 10–20% improvement rather than a guaranteed jump to 300 FPS everywhere.
I upgraded from a Ryzen 5 5600 to a 5500X3D and saw roughly 5–20% gains depending on the game. The upgrade was worthwhile for me because the net cost was only about $60 after selling the old CPU. If you can get a similar deal, it’s a reasonable AM4 upgrade; otherwise, saving for a larger platform upgrade may be better.
