I'm moving into my university dorm next week and need to transport my prebuilt PC setup on a 1.5–2 hour car ride. I've read that I should lay the case flat and remove the graphics card, but I'm nervous about removing the 9070 XT because I've never done it before. Many people have transported PCs for hours without removing the graphics card and had no problems. Keep it buckled into a seat or wedged securely on the floor, don’t put heavy objects on top, and make sure the GPU power cables are firmly connected. Removing the card is safer, but careful positioning is usually sufficient for a short trip.
The safest option is to remove the GPU: unplug its power cables, release the PCIe retention clip, remove its screws, and pull it straight out. Put it in an anti-static bag or its original packaging. A large card like a 9070 XT can put a lot of stress on the slot if the case gets bumped during the drive.
If you really don’t want to remove it, transport the tower on its side with the motherboard facing upward, so the GPU isn’t hanging vertically from the slot. Secure the case so it cannot slide around, and pad the outside with a blanket. Drive smoothly and avoid leaving it loose in the trunk.
