Why does my 118 GB C: drive fill up every day?

My C: drive has 118 GB of total space, but it reaches 0 MB free almost every day. I've already cleared temporary files and removed some applications, yet the available space keeps disappearing. What could be causing this, and are there any large files that are generally safe to remove? I'm hoping to recover around 10–30 GB because the lack of space is interfering with both work and gaming.

A 118 GB system drive is extremely tight for modern Windows. Windows updates, the page file, hibernation data, application caches, and restore data can consume much of it even without personal files. Moving games and media to another drive is the safest long-term fix; upgrading to at least a sc 250–512 GB SSD would also leave enough free space for Windows to operate normally. Avoid manually deleting files from Windows or Program Files unless you’ve confirmed exactly what they are.

First identify what is actually growing instead of deleting random system files. Tools such as WizTree can show which folders and files are using the space. Once you find a large item, look up what it is and whether it’s safe to remove before touching it. Common causes include Windows update leftovers, OneDrive syncing files locally, videos, pictures, caches, and old graphics-driver installers.

Run Windows Disk Cleanup as administrator and choose the option to clean system files. Also enable Storage Sense under Settings > System > Storage so Windows can remove eligible temporary files automatically. If you don’t use hibernation, disabling it with powercfg -h off in an administrator Command Prompt can recover space, although the amount depends on how much RAM the computer has.
