Hey everyone, this is my first post here and I'm really in a tough spot. I have a habit of collecting mustard packets from school, and I accidentally left one in my bag. When I pulled out my Chromebook, it ended up covered in mustard! I've managed to clean the outside, but there's some mustard stuck in the USB port and I'm not sure how to get it out. I can't afford a new laptop, so any help would be appreciated! Also, I'm not really familiar with this subreddit, so I hope this is the right place to ask.

You might want to try cleaning it out with some isopropyl alcohol and a few tools. Use q-tips or a toothpick to get it out carefully. Just be gentle so you don't damage anything.
Try using those plastic toothpicks with the little teeth. They’re soft enough not to damage anything. A toothbrush might help too, but it might not reach all the way down. A bit of alcohol can help soften any hardened mustard.
If I were you, I'd keep the Chromebook off and maybe take out the battery if possible. Then, use 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean the port. Let it dry completely before turning it back on.
A good method is to spray isopropyl alcohol into the port. Let it sit for a few seconds, then use some paper towel to soak up the excess. You can also use a thin paintbrush lightly coated in alcohol to help dislodge any mustard that’s stuck.
Honestly, it's a bit of a mess. But hey, just remember to keep food and drinks far away from your electronics to avoid this in the future!
