I have some budget left for my gaming PC and am deciding between 16GB of DDR5 memory with a 2TB SSD, or 32GB of memory with a 1TB SSD. The planned build uses a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Radeon RX 9070 XT, with gaming as the main use. Would either option be better, or should I spend the extra money on another component instead?

Storage depends on your game library. A 1TB drive fills surprisingly quickly once you install a few large games, but 1TB is enough to start with if you are comfortable uninstalling games. I would choose 32GB RAM and add a reasonably priced 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD later rather than paying a premium for a very fast PCIe 5.0 drive that will not noticeably improve gaming.
The overall build is already extremely powerful, so either 16GB/2TB or 32GB/1TB can work. If you regularly keep several programs open while gaming, choose 32GB. If you mainly play a large number of games and do not multitask much, the extra storage may be more convenient. Also double-check the power supply choice and consider a well-reviewed alternative before spending the remaining budget on cosmetic upgrades.
For a modern gaming build, 32GB is the safer choice. Sixteen gigabytes can still work, but newer games plus launchers, browsers, voice chat, and background apps can push you close to the limit. You can always add another SSD later, while running out of RAM can cause stutters and force you to close things.
