I'm a gap-year student planning to create long-form YouTube video essays and educational content for two channels. I want to learn DaVinci Resolve Fusion for motion graphics, infographics, and other visual effects, while gaming performance is a lower priority aside from occasional esports titles.
After feedback on an earlier 32GB build, I switched to a DDR4 platform so I could fit 64GB of memory into the budget. The current parts list includes a Ryzen 9 5900X, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE cooler, MSI B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi motherboard, 64GB of DDR4-3600 RAM, 1TB and 2TB NVMe SSDs, an RTX 5070, a Corsair 4000D Airflow case, and an 850W Gold-rated modular power supply. The total is roughly £2,000, excluding the monitor.
Could you check whether these parts are compatible and well suited to DaVinci Resolve and Fusion? I'd also appreciate suggestions for better-value alternatives or any weaknesses in the build. Finally, what monitor resolution and specifications would make the most sense for editing 4K footage: 1440p or 4K?

For this workload, I’d seriously consider switching to Intel’s 14th-generation platform. The Core i9-14900K offers substantially more CPU performance for editing and Fusion, and a DDR4-compatible B760 board lets you keep the 64GB memory choice while costing less than the current motherboard. The revised configuration comes in just under £2,000 and should also be at least as capable for gaming.
The Intel option doesn’t really sacrifice anything here: it improves productivity performance and remains strong for gaming. A BIOS update should be treated as an important first step, though.

That does look like a stronger fit for productivity without increasing the budget much. I’ll make sure the motherboard BIOS is updated before relying on the system.
