Should I buy a discounted RTX 4070 Super or upgrade my Ryzen 7 2700X first?

I can buy an RTX 4070 Super Gaming X Slim for £400, but I would also need to spend around £100 or more on a newer CPU. My current setup has a Ryzen 7 2700X and an RTX 2060 6GB. Would it make more sense to grab the 4070 Super while it is available at that price and upgrade the CPU later, or should I replace the processor first and wait on the graphics card?

I’d take the RTX 4070 Super at £400. That’s a particularly good price, and it’s a much bigger graphics upgrade from the RTX 2060 than a CPU swap would be. The Ryzen 7 2700X may limit performance in some CPU-heavy games, especially at high refresh rates, but you can replace it later with something like a Ryzen 5 5600.

Would the Ryzen 7 2700X create a serious bottleneck with the 4070 Super, though?

Go for the 4070 Super first. Even if a few games are CPU-limited, you’ll still have a substantially faster GPU overall. A Ryzen 5 5600 is relatively inexpensive—around £120 new and often under £100 used—and can provide roughly a 40–50% gaming improvement in situations where the processor is holding things back.
