Having Issues with Unstable Ethernet Connection—Help!

I've been dealing with a really frustrating issue where my Ethernet connection keeps dropping out intermittently. For the last couple of days, Windows tells me everything's set up right, but I can't seem to reach any DNS. To troubleshoot, I tried a few things. I connected to a VPN in Hong Kong which temporarily worked for about an hour, but that was sporadic. After running the Network Adapter Diagnostic Tool, I was told everything was configured properly, yet I couldn't reach microsoft.com. I also pinged my router and got 100% packet loss. I released and renewed my IP configuration, which gave me a shaky connection for a few minutes but then it dropped again. Restarting the router didn't change anything. The internet actually came back on its own after 6 hours, but after downloading new drivers for my Ethernet adapter, the connection failed again after an hour. Just to note, my roommates on Wi-Fi from the same router have had no issues at all. My setup includes an ASUS PRIME Z390-P motherboard, an Intel Core i7-9700K processor, 16GB of RAM, and an EVGA GTX 1060 graphics card.

You might want to try connecting your computer directly to the router with a patch cable. If that doesn't help and you still have issues, it could point to a problem with your computer itself. If it works fine, then you probably need to replace your Ethernet cables. They're often the culprit!

Yeah, that old cable might really be the issue, especially if it’s been around for a while! I'd definitely consider swapping it out.

Exactly! It could save you a lot of headaches.

Have you checked for any power-saving features on your NIC's driver? Sometimes they can mess with Ethernet stability more than you'd think. I had a similar problem once, but I can't recall exactly how I fixed it. Worth looking into!

Funny enough, my connection issues resolved themselves without me changing a thing! I was just about to give up when it suddenly came back and has been stable for a couple of hours now. Thanks for all the suggestions!
