I recently cracked my iPhone 17 Pro Max and regret not buying AppleCare when I had the chance. The phone is still under its limited warranty and hasn't been in my possession for a year yet. I just bought AirPods and added AppleCare One to that purchase, so I'm wondering whether I can add my iPhone to the plan now. Would the phone need to pass an inspection, and would the existing screen damage make it ineligible for coverage?

Be prepared for either outcome: some devices can be added during the enrollment window, but pre-existing damage is generally excluded. If Apple asks about the condition or requires an inspection, make sure you’re upfront about the cracked screen.
Try adding it through the AppleCare settings or by contacting Apple. Whether it works depends on the enrollment requirements, and they may reject the phone or ask you to have it inspected because of the visible damage.
You may be able to add the iPhone to AppleCare One, but Apple can require a device inspection first. Since the screen is already cracked, the existing damage probably won’t be covered, and adding the phone now wouldn’t normally make that repair eligible.

Thanks—I’m hoping it works, but I’ll check the eligibility rules and see what Apple says about the inspection.
