I recently upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 5 5500X3D and currently have an RTX 3060 Ti. I mainly want to play at 1440p, but I'd also like the option to try 4K occasionally. What GPU would offer a noticeable performance boost without costing a fortune?

For a lower-cost upgrade, the RX 9060 XT 16GB or RTX 5060 Ti 16GB could work for 1440p, but 4K performance would be much more limited. Make sure the price is substantially lower than a 9070-series card, since some 5060 Ti models are priced too close to the faster options.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT looks like one of the strongest price-to-performance choices right now. It should be excellent for 1440p and can manage 4K reasonably well with upscaling. It’s also generally cheaper than comparable NVIDIA cards, though you’d give up access to DLSS.
There isn’t much of a budget route if you want both strong 1440p performance and a usable 4K option. The RX 9070 XT is probably the best middle ground, while the RX 9070 or RTX 5070 can handle 1440p well and 4K around 60 fps depending on the game and settings. Be aware that 12GB of VRAM may become limiting in some newer 4K games.
If you prefer NVIDIA features like DLSS, the RTX 5070 Ti is roughly in the same performance class as the RX 9070 XT. A regular RTX 5070 is another option for 1440p, but it may not feel like enough of an upgrade for the money compared with your 3060 Ti.
