I bought a cute character-shaped flash drive, but the connector doesn't fit into a standard USB port and the metal end looks unusual. Is it defective or a nonstandard accessory? I can still return it if it isn't actually a usable USB drive.

That doesn’t appear to be a regular USB flash drive. The connector is missing the normal USB contact layout, so don’t force it in or try cutting off the metal tabs. Returning it is the safest option.
Return it. A standard USB plug should slide into the port easily and have visible contact pins arranged like a normal USB connector. This one looks malformed or decorative rather than functional.

I’ll probably return it, then. It’s disappointing because the character design is really cute.
