I have all my PC components ready to assemble, but I'm very worried about electrostatic discharge. I'll be building the system at my BEKANT desk and was wondering whether the metal screw in one of the desk legs is a safe, properly grounded place to attach my anti-static wrist strap. If that isn't reliable, what's the safest practical way to protect the components from static electricity during assembly?

In a room without carpet, ordinary clothing, and rubber-soled footwear, the chance of damaging parts with static is already quite low. Avoid shuffling around on carpet, handle components by their edges, and occasionally touch the bare metal of the PC case or another known-grounded metal object. You probably don’t need to obsess over it or use the desk leg as a grounding point.
Don’t rely on the desk screw unless you’ve specifically tested that it’s electrically grounded. A simpler approach is to plug the power supply into a properly grounded wall outlet, leave the PSU switch turned off, and touch the unpainted metal casing before handling components. The case can remain connected to the PSU while you build, but don’t power the system on while installing parts or cables.

The PSU doesn’t need to be switched on for the case to be connected to ground. In fact, leave it off while assembling so there’s no live power going through the system.
