Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus iGPU Artifacts Only When XMP Is Enabled

I recently built a new PC with an Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus running at stock settings, an MSI Z890 PZ motherboard with the latest BIOS, and a G.Skill 5600 MT/s CL28 dual-channel memory kit. I am using only the processor's integrated graphics through the motherboard's HDMI output, with no dedicated GPU installed.

As soon as Windows 11 loads with XMP enabled, the display becomes covered in severe white, static-like artifacts—almost like an old analog TV losing signal. The system becomes difficult to use, and even restarting can be a challenge. The problem does not occur when the memory runs at its default 4800 MT/s settings without XMP.

So far I have reinstalled Windows 11, installed the motherboard and CPU drivers, updated the BIOS, tried different RAM slots, tested the memory with around ten MemTest86 runs without errors, replaced the CPU with another Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, run multiple Cinebench R24 stability tests, disabled 200S Boost and the NPU, experimented with NGU and D2D ratios, and tried different monitors and HDMI cables. None of that helped when XMP was active.

Interestingly, the system sometimes runs at 5600 MT/s with XMP enabled, including during Cinebench tests, but the artifacts can return after a reboot or another MemTest86 run. Windows 10 reportedly works without the issue, while Windows 11 shows the problem. Has anyone encountered this interaction between the integrated graphics, XMP, and this platform? What settings or troubleshooting steps could make the iGPU stable at 5600 MT/s?

Start with Intel’s own driver detection and update utility rather than relying only on the drivers provided by the motherboard manufacturer. Those packages can lag behind Intel’s current graphics and chipset releases. Also test with XMP enabled by itself—leave NGU and D2D at their standard values and disable the 200S-related setting. If that is stable, change only one of those ratios at a time afterward.

This looks very much like a platform compatibility or memory-controller issue rather than a straightforward defective CPU. The fact that the artifacts disappear at 4800 MT/s strongly points toward the XMP profile, even though MemTest86 passes. Integrated graphics uses system memory, so a memory setting can cause display corruption without producing conventional RAM-test errors. Try slightly relaxing the timings or running a lower frequency such as 5200 MT/s as a compromise.

A useful isolation test would be installing a separate Windows installation on a spare drive and testing the system with the same BIOS settings. That can help distinguish an operating-system or driver problem from a firmware and memory-training problem. Keep backups first, and avoid changing several BIOS options at once so you can identify which setting affects the artifacts.

I tested a separate Windows installation and it worked normally, which makes this even more confusing. The main Windows 11 setup still produces the artifacts when XMP is enabled.

There appear to be other reports of Intel Core Ultra 200-series integrated graphics problems that show up specifically with XMP or certain Windows configurations. Since Windows 10 works on the same hardware, compare the graphics driver versions and Windows display settings between the two installations. It may ultimately require a newer Intel graphics driver, motherboard BIOS, or microcode update rather than a hardware replacement.
