Why Does My SSD Hit 100% Usage When Starting Games or Booting Up?

I bought a PC about two months ago, and lately the disk usage frequently reaches 100%. This usually happens when I first start the computer or launch a game. The drive is an SSD. What could be causing this, and how can I figure out which process is responsible?

Since it’s an SSD, occasional 100% usage during startup or game loading isn’t automatically a problem. If it stays there for long periods, check the drive’s health and available space, install the latest chipset and storage drivers, and see whether one process is constantly using the disk. If no program explains it, run a malware scan and check the SSD manufacturer’s diagnostic tool.

Check Task Manager while the usage is at 100% and sort the Processes tab by disk activity. Game launchers and other programs may be downloading updates or verifying files in the background, especially when a game starts. Windows updates, antivirus scans, and startup apps can also briefly max out the drive.
